The energy storage project will provide EnergyAustralia with a natural hedge against such market fluctuations and help stabilise energy prices and ensure a more resilient energy supply. “At EnergyAustralia, our purpose is to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all,” said EnergyAustralia Managing Director, Mark Collette.
Why is battery storage important in Australia?
Battery storage is now key to Australia’s clean energy transition. It stabilizes supply by storing extra renewable energy and delivering it on demand, even when solar or wind output drops. This helps prevent blackouts and ensures steady green energy flow. BESS installations are expected to double by 2027.
How many energy projects are there in Australia?
There were also 69 committed storage projects, equivalent to 12.5GW in capacity and 32.1GWh in energy output. Renewables provided 40% of Australia’s electricity last year, with fossil fuels still accounting for the majority at 60%, according to the report.
